Learn more about whether CBD gives you a body high in comparison to THC

Does CBD Give You a Body High?

Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a cannabinoid that you can find in both cannabis and hemp. This cannabinoid has received significantly more attention in recent years, as it was made legal.

Many studies found that CBD had healing properties and is not psychoactive. This cannabinoid can be easily extracted from weed and made into various types of marijuana-related products, like CBD oil, CBD tinctures and even CBD balms.

The reason why CBD was made legal is because it does not give you a body high or any cerebral effects at all. You can take this substance without becoming under the influence. This chemical compound, however, can treat a variety of ailments and medical conditions, bringing it a lot of attention.

The THC High

If you’ve ever smoked weed, you know what it feels like to be ‘high’. The psychoactive properties of kush mainly come from tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC. THC alters one’s mental state, and is responsible for a sense of euphoria, happiness and heightened sensory perception. Unlike THC, CBD does not do any of these things at all.

Why Does THC Make You High, but Not CBD?

The effects of CBDBoth CBD and THC attach to receptors in the brain called cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) receptors, but they do different things.

THC activates these receptors, which is what produces that “high” feeling that you get when you smoke marijuana or eat edibles. CBD, on the other hand, blocks it and prevents it from activating. This is why a strain that’s high in CBD will usually produce little to no psychoactive effects. It essentially dulls the effects of THC.

This is why you can comfortably take a product like the 1:1 THC to CBD Mary’s Oil and not get too high from it. Although some people will feel a little bit high, the CBD in the oil will counteract the THC in it to dull the effects of THC.

CBD, THC and the Endocannabinoid System

The endocannabinoid system (ECS)  is a complex system that already exists in your body whether or not you smoke cannabis. This system is important for a lot of things, like sleep, mood, appetite, memory and reproduction and fertility. CBD interacts with the ECS in a complex way. The exact mechanisms are still being studied, but most experts believe that CBD will inhibit the enzyme Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase (FAAH).

On top of interacting with the ECS, CBD also interacts with numerous other systems.  For example, it can interact with dopamine receptors and other receptors that are responsible for regulating mood, body temperature and more.

Benefits of CBD

Reasons to take CBDSo, if CBD doesn’t get high, what’s the point of taking it?

CBD has many health benefits. It doesn’t only come from cannabis plants. In fact, you can find CBD in hemp plants. The cannabidiol (CBD) is extracted from the plant in order to create different types of CBD products, like CBD oil, CBD balms and CBD gummies like Twisted Extracts Peach CBD Jelly Bombs (which are delicious by the way!).

Some of the health benefits that CBD can provide include:

  • Relaxation and calmness. If you’re not a fan of smoking marijuana for anxiety, consider taking CBD gummies instead. They’ll instantly make you feel more relaxed and calm. This is a reason why many people who struggle with anxiety and depression will often rely on CBD.
  • Epilepsy. Studies show that those who struggle with seizures may benefit from using CBD. In fact, the FDA approved a CBD-based drug in 2018.
  • Chronic pain and inflammation. CBD is known to provide pain relief and treat chronic pain. It can also reduce inflammation, so it’s great for those who struggle with muscle aches and pains. It’s also great for those who are struggling with arthritis.

CBD can also uplift mood. Some people claim that CBD products can make them feel more energized as well. These products are natural and not synthesized in a laboratory.

Are There Any Known Side Effects for CBD?

Speaking of natural, many people believe that natural products should come with little to no side effects.

In general, most people can take CBD without experiencing any side effects at all; however, it is important to note that CBD is a fairly novel compound in the medical industry. Due to this reason, there is a possibility that there will be new research in the future that shows otherwise.

Despite this, most people generally accept CBD as a healthy compound and a better alternative than prescription medications. There are a small number of people who have experienced side effects when taking CBD. Some of the more common side effects experienced include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Mild nausea

It appears that those who take CBD products in conjunction with some prescription medications may struggle with more side effects and more intense side effects as well. Some prescription medications can also interact with CBD in a negative manner and render it useless.

Another thing to note is that some people claim that mixing CBD with high fat meals can also increase the chances of experiencing side effects. So, don’t chow down on a hamburger and then take a CBD gummy. It might make you feel sick.
